Ride On Celebrates 25th Year of Food Donation Program

Ride On Celebrates 25th Year of Food Donation Program

Montgomery County's Ride On bus system is celebrating their 25th annual "Give and Ride" program all this week.  From April 22 to April 28, passengers can enjoy a free ride in exchange for a non-perishable food item or children's item such as disposable diapers, formula, baby or toddler food and juice. Plastic containers are preferred.

During the "Give and Ride" promotion, food collection bags will be placed near the fare boxes on all Ride On buses. Riders using free shuttles and other transit services can participate by bringing their donations to a Ride On bus.

Food donations, will be valued at the regular fare rate of $1.70. Passengers who transfer buses will need an additional food donation to ride free on the second bus.

All donated food will be distributed to those in need by the Manna Food Center,  a non-profit organization that distributes food to 3,000 hungry families a month in Montgomery County.

This is the Eighth of an Eight-Part Feature on the designers’ vision and progress at the DC Design House, which is now open through May 13th. The DC Design House benefits Children's National Medical Center.

Victoria Sanchez of Victoria Sanchez Interiors in Alexandria, VA, www.victoriasanchezinteriors.com, was inspired by her own children for the design of Space 21, the Teenager’s Getaway. “I looked to their likes and dislikes, and their wants and desires as I created this design,” says Sanchez, who is excited to part of the Design House but also knows the amount of work that had to be completed in a short period of time.

Thirteen baby ducks have just been born in the courtyard of the Renaissance Gardens extended care neighborhood at Riderwood retirement community in Silver Spring, MD. Mallards have mysteriously come to Renaissance Gardens each spring for the past few years to give birth to their babies. They then leave by summer to explore new worlds of wonder.
