On Thursday, November 10, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and County Council President Valerie Ervin will join representatives of government agencies, including Montgomery County’s Office of Human Rights, Office of Consumer Protection, Office of Landlord-Tenant Affairs, Commission on People with Disabilities and Housing Opportunities Commission, as well as Maryland’s Commission on Civil Rights and Department of Disabilities.  The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Equal Rights Center will also participate.

November 3, 2011-- Washington, DC.  Thursday night in Washington was all about giving back and giving thanks at the House of Sweden at the "Horton's Kids 2011 Give Thanks Give Back Fundraiser:  Cocktails & Crooners" in Georgetown.  It’s held each year to thank the many volunteer tutors, mentors, board members, and supporters who help enrich the lives of kids that reside in Ward 8 in Washington.

Horton’s Kids is a 501(c)3 mission is to educate and empower the children of Washington, DC’s Ward 8 by providing comprehensive, direct services which improve the quality of their daily lives and nurture their desire and ability to succeed. These services include tutoring and mentoring along with a host of other wrap around services benefiting children the Anacostia neighborhood.

Montgomery County Homeowners Invited to One-on-One Foreclosure Prevention Counseling

The Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA), in partnership with the Montgomery County Housing Fair Planning Committee and the City of Gaithersburg, invites all county homeowners who are falling behind in their mortgage payments or are facing foreclosure to attend a free foreclosure prevention counseling event on Saturday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Bohrer Park Activity Center, Summit Hall Farm, 506 S. Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg.

Homeowners will receive one-on-one foreclosure prevention counseling offered by trained representatives from the following government-approved housing counseling agencies in Montgomery County: Asian-American Homeownership Counseling, HomeFree USA, Housing Initiative Partnership and the Latino Economic Development Corporation.

Celebrates 51st Anniversary in Sept.

 The Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church festival celebrates their 51st annual festival, Friday through Sunday, Sept. 16, 17 and 18, 2011, from 12 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday (rain or shine). The largest and oldest DC Greek Festival is located at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church at the corner of 16th and Upshur streets in Washington, D.C. Admission is FREE.

On Sunday, July 31st, ShopRite of White Oak in Silver Spring will be hosting a special Grand Opening Celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. at their new store.   Family fun activities, food sampling and cooking demos will take place from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Scheduled to attend the grand opening are local politicians and government officials as well as members of the Sumas family, owners of Village Super Market, Inc., which operates this location and 26 other ShopRite stores in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
