TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA) -- Tuesday, a Cheverly man was found guilty of a robbery and carjacking which occurred in Takoma Park in November 2009.
Forty-two-year-old Anthony Joyner was found guilty of robbery and carjacking in the Circuit Court of Montgomery County. His sentencing is scheduled for April 24.
DNA evidence collected from the scene pointed to Joyner as a suspect in the Nov. 20, 2009 carjacking of an elderly woman in the 600 block of Boston Avenue. During that carjacking, Joyner reportedly forced her to the ground of her driveway, assaulted her and took some of her property. He then fled in her car on Boston Avenue towards Takoma Avenue.
DC Police found the empty vehicle approximately 25 minutes later in the 1400 block of Iris Street, NW. They said Joyner had attempted to burn the vehicle, but detectives were able to get DNA evidence.
An arrest warrant for Joyner was issued on August 27, 2011. He was found in Kentucky and brought back to Maryland to stand trial.
