TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA) -- Montgomery County Fire officials have identified the woman killed in Montgomery County early Monday morning, fire officials said.

The fire happened at around 2:15 a.m. on the 7600 block of Maple Avenue in Takoma Park. 

Firefighters found a burned pile of clothing and towels when they arrived at the scene. They also found a woman who was "significantly burned on a large portion of her body," officials said.  The victim's daughter was also inside the apartment, trying trying to help her mother.

The woman was taken to a local burn center for treatment. However, she died shortly afterward, officials said. Montgomery County Fire officials have now identified her as 56-year-old Charlotte Wilson of Takoma Park.

Fire officials are still trying to determine the origin and cause of the fire, but investigators believe that a cigarette may have started the fire.

Officials say there is approximately $1,000 workth of damage.
