2 men rob taxi cab driver in Takoma Park area


TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two suspects robbed a taxi cab driver in Takoma Park on September 12, according Takoma Park police.

The reported robbery happened around 10:40 p.m. in the 7100 block of 13th Avenue, according to authorities. The taxi driver picked up two people from the Prince George's Plaza Metro Station. They asked to go to Takoma Park.

Police said both of the suspects sat in the back of the taxi. One of the suspects put a knife to the victim's throat and told him not to move. The taxi driver was cut when he tried to move away from the knife.

The second suspect got out of the taxi, opened the driver's door and demanded his cell phone. Witnesses saw the robbery and stated that police were on the way.

The suspects fled southbound on foot in the direction of Manor Hill Park. The area was searched, however the suspects were not found.

Crews respond to Freon leak at Takoma Park restaurant


TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Crews responded to a small Freon leak, which was first believed to be a fire at a Takoma Park restaurant Monday, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue said.

The leak happened at Mark's Kitchen located at 7006 Carroll Avenue, officials said. The leak was quickly brought under control and the building was ventilated.

Nobody was injured.

Suspect wanted in Takoma Park burglary


TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- A residential burglary in Takoma Park is under investigation after a suspect or suspects attempted to break into a home through the second story window Friday night, police said.

The burglary attempt happened in the 7100 block of Sycamore Avenue around 9:38 p.m., according to authorities.

The window screen from the window was found in a neighbor's yard, police said.

Takoma Park lane closures starting Monday due to repairs


TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Starting Monday one lane on Carroll Avenue between Flower Avenue and Jefferson Avenue in Takoma Park will be closed for repairs, according to Takoma Park police.

Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration will be making repairs to the deteriorated sections of the sidewalk on the southbound side of the bridge, officials said. The repairs will start Monday at 9 a.m. and continue each day of the week, weather permitting, Takoma Park police said. Crews are also allowed to close the southbound lane of MD 195.

There will be a flagging operation which will help guide both northbound and southbound MD 195 traffic through the work zone, authorities said.

All lanes will reopen no later than 3 p.m. every day during the week. Drivers should expect delays during the repairs.

Pedestrians will still be able to walk in the area, according to authorities.

Man hit after falling near Metrobus tire in Takoma


TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man was injured Thursday after he fell near a Metrobus and the rear tire hit him at the Takoma Park Metro Station, according to Washington Area Transit Authority.

The accident happened after 3 p.m. when police say a man was walking on the sidewalk and lost his balance as a bus was extending its ramp for a passenger using a wheelchair, WMATA said.

As the bus was moving, the man fell onto the roadway and WMATA said the rear tire hit him.

The man suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to WMATA.

MISSING: 17-year-old Takoma Park girl


Takoma Park police are asking for help locating a missing 17-year-old Takoma Park girl.

Police say Alei Cook was last seen Friday night at around 10:40 in the 700 block of Hudson Avenue in Takoma Park.

Cook is described as a 5-foot 9-inch black female with a dark complexion weighing 197 pounds. She was last seen wearing a crisscross top and black shorts.

Police did not provide a photo of Cook.

MISSING: Takoma Park 17-year-old female


TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police are searching for a 17-year-old from Takoma Park who was last seen on Thursday.

Cecelia Robinson, 17, was last seen in the 700 block of Hudson Avenue, according to Takoma Park police.

She is described as a black female, standing 5'3" tall and weighing 110 pounds. She has brown and black hair. It is unknown what she was wearing.
